Hellicopter Challenge September 2011

On the 24th September, 10 intrepid helicopter pilots braved the treacherously windy conditions at the GMAC field to participate in the first ever “Anderson Rules” Helicopter Challenge.

The pilots got to nominate which manoeuvres they wanted to perform from a list of 7.
Each other pilot then scored them for their attempts. The average was then “scaled” according to the pilot’s skill level and the resulting percentage improvement became the final score.

The next time we have the event we will use the Overall averages in the table below as our ranking and hence each pilot will compete with their previous average.

Like golf but without the frustration of losing your balls.

Congratulations go to Graeme, Andrew (a newcomer) and Paul for their flying on the day. We plan to hold similar events on a regular basis so if you are interested then let us know.

Prizes for this challenge were donated by the event organiser, Chris Anderson, and consisted of the GMAC Brand Aero modeller’s "Viagra".

The table below shows the individual scores recorded. The day concluded with a ridiculous, but entertaining, attempt by Chris Anderson to perform the manoeuvres with a micro sized Blade mCPX helicopter that was severely underpowered for the gusty wind conditions and resulted in two crashes, hence the large negative score.

By the way, “Anderson Rules” doesn’t mean that an Anderson has to win it!
