Model aircraft are no different to full size aircraft and it would be disastrous to try and fly without lessons. GMAC offer instruction to all members and have instructors for fixed wing, gliders and helicopters. Flight testing is required so you can be recognised as a competent pilot.

"Bronze Wings" rating allows you to fly without the presence of an instructor.

"Gold Wings" rating enables you to participate in public Display Days and progress to "Instructor" level.

 

Instructors

GMAC Flying Instructors have considerable flying experience and all have completed the MAAA Instructor course. Instructors are there to pass on their knowledge and expertise to the beginner to avoid costly mistakes and crashes.

Instructors will look at the construction and airworthiness, assuring that the centre of gravity is correct and your aircraft is ready for flight. They will test fly your plane and adjust the trim on controls and verify the aircraft's ability to fly straight and in control, take-off and landing, taking the guesswork out of your first flight.

An instructor will take you through a set of pre flight and flight procedures designed to assure that you can fly safely and without incident. Instructors understand that you may make a mistake, causing your aircraft to become out of control; the instructor will talk you through until you regain control, or are ready to step in and take-over the controls.
